Hot on the heels of “Screw Driver,” “Breakfast Can Wait” and “FIXURLIFEUP,” Prince has released yet another new tune, “Ain’t Gonna Miss U When U’re Gone,” featuring singer-songwriter Ledisi.
The funky six-minute jam features unconventional percussion, like bells, an interjecting brass section and just a touch of ’80s synth.

The GRAMMY-nominated Ledisi sings the chorus on loop, “Ain’t gonna miss you when you’re gone,” while Prince dedicates the verses to an ex-love interest who he apparently no longer cares for. He sings, “Pardon my critique/Something’s changed/Every time you speak it sounds deranged/Blessed are the meek/You used to be my girl/Now you’re just a freak that’s going back in the world.”
In place of the singer’s famous falsetto are a couple of different rap breaks, done in a computerized bass tone to break up the duo’s groovy duet.
Prince’s new song is available for download on the mysterious 3rdeyegirl website, but it is yet to be confirmed whether it (or any of the tracks he’s released this year) will make the cut for his upcoming album, rumored to be called Plectrum Electrum.
While details surrounding the record’s release are minimal-to-none, it has been confirmed that Prince will provide guest vocals on Janelle Monáe’s upcoming effort The Electric Lady, due out in September.
