The band fun. have the #1 single in the country right now, but how much do you know about them?

fun. was formed by Arizona native Nate Ruess, of indie rock band The Format, after they disbanded in 2008. Following the split Nate packed up and met up with touring pals Andrew Dost of Anathallo and Jack Antonoff of Steel Train in New Jersey and immediately started recording with them. Since then, fun. has offered up two albums (Aim and Ignite in 2009 and their latest, Some Nights, in February 2012), have performed sold out shows supporting fellow pop/rock groups such as Jack’s Mannequin and Paramore and are slated to perform at the Bonnaroo 2012 music festival in Manchester, TN — on top of an already hectic schedule.

The band is best known for their 2012 hit single “We Are Young” featuring Janelle Monae. It’s success can be traced back to the Glee performance of “We Are Young.”

The catchy track has hit the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts. Interestingly enough, that’s the first time in over ten years that a rock band has made a Billboard debut at #1 on the Hot 100 since Nickelback’s “How You Remind Me” was released in 2001, as well as becoming the first rock song to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart since Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” in 2008.

fun.’s latest full-length album, Some Nights, is available now via Fueled By Ramen Records and can be streamed in full on their website.

And get ready, the band is about to release a brand new single. Singer Nate Ruess recently told MTV “The song’s going to be ‘Some Nights,’ which, for us, is the song we always dreamed would be a single and never thought it would happen.” Nate continued, “We’re talking about videos right now. The video’s going to be amazing, and we haven’t even decided on anything yet. … But just from the early stuff we’ve discussed, it’s going to be phenomenal.”
